This is for a new Dream involving dragons. The head of the drum was designed in Illustrator, then texture-mapped on. Sometimes being a computer artist means designing something. It helps to know a little basic engineering. In this case, I've designed a fairly stable stand using a minimum of materials. It consists of three hardwood uprights, a strong metal hoop, and a triangle of sinew rope. The drum's weight pulls downwards, pressuring the uprights to collapse inwards. The hoop is a fulcrum as the sinew rope pulls the uprights outwards and upwards again. The kettle shape bounces the sound waves back at the drumhead, strengthening the sound. |
